Applets: Applets is a piece of code written in Java that run on a web browser as a separate entity. This is also used to give dynamic effects to your website.
Images: A file used to display graphics on web browsers is usually in GIF, JPEG or BMP format. These are of two types:- a)Static image retains its position and style throughout the session b) Dynamic image is also called Animated image moves or changes.
Flash: Used to design multidimensional animated image application.

This is all about the requirement for client side designing. Server side applications requires: Unix, Windows NT, CGI, SSI, PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion, Active-X, SSL. Some authorized tool for web designing includes:
Frontpage, Dream Weaver, Cold Fusion, Visual InterDev, Lotus Domino, Photo Shop.
